Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 28, 2026
This policy explains what information the TOEFL Prep iOS app (“TOEFL Prep”, “we”) collects, how it is used and the choices you have. TOEFL Prep is developed by Nikita Yamshchikov.
Information stored on your device
Your goal band, exam date, settings, answers, scores and voice recordings are stored locally on your iPhone. TOEFL Prep does not require an account and does not upload your history to our servers. Deleting the app deletes this data.
AI feedback
TOEFL Prep uses OpenAI, a third-party AI service, to score Speaking and Writing answers. The app asks for your permission before it sends anything to OpenAI, and you can withdraw it at any time in Settings (“Allow AI feedback”). Without permission, no answers are sent and objective practice keeps working.
With your permission, each time you ask for feedback on a Speaking or Writing answer, the app sends to OpenAI: the voice recording of that answer (to transcribe it) and its transcript, or the text you wrote, together with the task instructions. OpenAI uses this data only to return a transcript, a practice score and feedback to the app. Nothing else is sent – not your name, email, Apple Account, other answers or your history.
OpenAI processes this data under its API terms as our service provider, protects it with security and confidentiality measures at least equal to those described in this policy, and does not use API data to train its models by default (OpenAI privacy policy). Practice in Reading, Listening and Build a Sentence is scored on your device and is not sent anywhere.
Microphone
The microphone is used only while you record an answer. Recordings stay on your iPhone unless you request AI feedback for them.
Analytics and tracking
TOEFL Prep does not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, does not use the advertising identifier and does not track you across apps and websites. We do not sell your personal information.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never receive your payment details.
Children
TOEFL Prep is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date above shows when it was last changed.
